Delete Your Account

Effective Date: 11 August 2026  |  Last Updated: 17 August 2026

This page applies to every ColCare account type — Student, Doctor, Pharmacy, and Diagnostic Centre. It explains how to request permanent deletion, what gets deleted, and what we are legally required to keep.

1. How to Request Deletion

Use the button below, or email us directly — either way reaches the same team and is processed the same way, whichever type of account you hold.

If you’d rather email us: write to support@mycolcare.com from the email address registered on your ColCare account, with the subject “Delete my account”, and let us know which role (Student, Doctor, Pharmacy, or Diagnostic Centre) the account belongs to. Include the full name and email on the account and, for students, the institution you are enrolled at, so we can identify it without asking for further personal details. If you no longer have access to that email address, contact us and we will verify your identity another way.

You can also delete your account from within the app: Students use the ColCare mobile app — Profile > Privacy & Security > Delete Account. Doctors, pharmacy staff, and diagnostic centre staff use the ColCare web portal — Settings > Privacy & Security > Delete Account.

Facility admins:if you are the registered admin for a pharmacy or diagnostic centre, your account cannot be deleted while you are the facility’s only admin, since this would leave the facility without anyone able to manage it. Transfer admin rights to another staff member first, or ask us to deactivate the facility as part of your deletion request.

2. What Happens Next

We confirm receipt of your request, verify that it comes from the account holder, and then process the deletion. Requests are completed within 30 days, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed once processed. If you only want to stop using ColCare for a while, you can deactivate your account instead — a deactivated account keeps your records and can be reactivated whenever you choose to return.

3. What Is Deleted

When your deletion request is processed, we permanently remove your account, login credentials, and profile information, along with the data specific to your role:

RoleData Removed
StudentName, email, phone, date of birth, profile photo, matriculation number, bio data and next-of-kin details, chat history with doctors, notification preferences and registered devices, and any unused consultation balance (forfeited on deletion).
DoctorName, contact details, profile photo, availability schedule, chat history with students, notification preferences and registered devices. Licence/ID documents and bank details are removed once any pending earnings have been settled.
Pharmacy staffName, contact details, login credentials, and role within the pharmacy. Facility-level records (inventory, dispensing history) are retained with the facility, not the individual staff account.
Diagnostic centre staffName, contact details, login credentials, and role within the centre. Facility-level records (test orders, results) are retained with the facility, not the individual staff account.

4. What Is Retained, and Why

Some records cannot be deleted on request because Nigerian law requires us to keep them. These are retained in restricted storage, are no longer linked to an active account, and are not used for any other purpose.

Record typeRetention periodReason
Medical records — consultation notes, prescriptions, and test resultsMinimum of 6 yearsRequired by Nigerian health record regulations
Payment, transaction, and doctor earnings recordsAs required by lawTax, accounting, and audit obligations
Records subject to a legal claim or investigationUntil the matter is resolvedLegal obligation

Once these statutory periods expire, the remaining records are deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
